History of the Local Area

Heritage of Market Bosworth

As suggested by it’s name, the lovely village of Market Bosworth has matured from a market town after being granted a Royal Charter for fairs and markets in 1285. For centuries, a fair for cattle, horses and merchandise and another for cattle, horses and sheep were held.

Bosworth Battlefield was the grounds for the War of Roses between the House of York and the House of Lancaster who competed for the throne of England with a series of civil wars. The War of the Roses waged between 1455 and 1485 between Henry VI and Richard of York.
